Georgina Srinivas Rao, MD
MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Picture
Georgina Srinivas Rao, MD, provides patient care for patients 18 years and older using a behavioral wellness model that weighs both the biological and psychological underpinnings of psychiatric disorders. While the mind-body connection is central to treatment, the significance and impact of environmental variables involving family, school and society are not ignored. This multi-faceted approach to treatment is based on the rapid scientific advances that began in the '80s and '90s in understanding human brain function, genetics and the role of therapeutic drugs and psychotherapies.

While psychiatrists increasingly use medications to stabilize patients, it is the follow-up measures that help maintain improvements. Dr. Rao is detail oriented, conscientious and proactive in her coordination of care with other medical and psychotherapy specialists. Treatment plans involving medication are expertly managed using feedback from patients, caregivers and participating medical professionals.

Dr. Rao actively works to improve public awareness and understanding of advances based on research and evidence that are being made in the field of behavioral health. Through community speaking and posting of educational material to the practice's website, Dr. Rao strives to help reduce the stigma sometimes associated with psychology and psychiatry.

After graduating from medical school in 1995 Dr. Rao completed her psychiatric residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She then completed a geriatric fellowship at Northwestern University Medical Center in order to prepare herself for challenges specific to the rapidly growing population of older adults. Following her fellowship she served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at UIC specializing in gender and reproductive related psychiatric disorders, a position that entailed supervising residents, fellows and medical students. From 2001 through 2008, Dr. Rao worked in public psychiatry with teams of behavioral and medical specialists in southwest Michigan.
